Workshop on China, the Digital Economy and the Juncker plan: June 4th, 14:00-17:30
ChinaEU has been invited to host a panel at the ASEM Industry Dialogue on Connectivity, under the theme Advancing Asia-Europe Connectivity through Innovation, to be held on 27-28 May 2015 in Chongqing, China.
The initiative was proposed by Chinese Premier Li Keqiang at the 10th ASEM Summit in Milan last year, hosted by Italian Prime Minister Matteo Renzi. Around 300 government officials, businessmen as well as researchers from ASEM members are expected to attend this event.
Among this year participants: Zhang Gaoli, First Vice Premier of China’s State Council, Dominique de Villepin, Former Prime Minister of France, Li Jiping, Executive Vice-President of China Development Bank, Sun Yuanjiang, Deputy Director General of China’s Ministry of Commerce, Xu Yu, Director-General for Bureau of Informatization Promotion of the Cyberspace Administration of China (CAC), Gerhard Sabathil, Director for Northeast Asia and the Pacific of EEAS, Jin Qi, President of The Silk Road Fund, Chen Feng, Chairman of Hainan Airlines.
At the core of the two-day discussions is the significance of enhanced connectivity between Asia and Europe, to boost economic prosperity and sustainable development, and to promote the free movement of people, trade, investment, energy, information, knowledge and ideas, and greater institutional linkages. The event will look at the key areas of cooperation between the two regions, including road transportation and aviation, industrial zones alignment, trade, investment, finance, and, last but not least, digital connectivity. An entire panel will be in fact dedicated to “Internet Plus”, the new strategy identified by Chinese Premier Li to emphasize the role of Internet in the economic structure and future economic development. The panel will explore the new opportunities arising from cross-border e-commerce, manufacturing industry innovation, cloud computing and modern logistics, digital infrastructure and 5G.
A prominent space will be given to the Chongqing-Xinjiang-Europe International Railway and the newly founded Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, highlighted as successful case studies for enhanced regional cooperation.
The main objectives of ChinaEU are to expand EU-China technological and economic cooperation in the digital field, to promote Chinese investments and Chinese business interests in the European digital market, to facilitate partnerships and business exchanges between European and Chinese ICT companies both in Europe and in China, and to support the mutual understanding of the respective digital markets and regulatory environments.
